1). Assistant Production Manager
Acts as an assistant to a Production Manager of Monterey Bay Nursery, Inc. at their location on San Miguel Canyon Rd. in Watsonville. After training and when qualified this employee will most likely have substantial responsibility for certain aspects of production and production planning for specific areas or for specific crops. In other areas, he or she will work under the direction of other supervisors. Another important duty will be working on production planning.
Duties will involve all aspects of container production and production management, from moving, planting, pruning, staking, spraying or otherwise physically lifting and handling plants to computer data input, record keeping, and direction of employees. This employee may be in charge of supervising up to 30 workers at times when needed. Duties will parallel those of Production Manager and differ primarily in scale.
This position would most likely be filled by an entry level or close to entry level employee with a degree or a reasonable level of education in horticulture, or an individual with equivalent experience from a similar business.

2). Propagation Manager
Acts as primary supervisor of all propagation for Monterey Bay Nursery, Inc. Employee will have full responsibility for most aspects of propagation production. Involves close coordination with general management and a Production Manager. This employee serves under the immediate and direct supervision of a Production Manager for Monterey Bay Nursery but works independently most of the time. This job is currently only a part time position and the balance of the daily or weekly duties would involve all aspects of the Assistant Production Manager job listed above.
Duties will involve all aspects of propagation production, from planning and preparation of plants for propagation through striking of cuttings, grafting, or sowing of seed, to the end delivery of finished material to final production areas. Employee will be in direct charge of ten or more trained employees to carry out these duties. Other incidental duties will involve experimental propagation treatments, hybridizing, or special propagation assignments.
One job site is separate from Monterey Bay Nursery, Inc. and is two miles distant. It shares the site with a subsidiary growing grounds of Monterey Bay Nursery, Inc. It includes a number of greenhouses in a broad range of conditions as well as outdoor container production areas and in-ground growing fields.
We envision this position as being filled by an experienced nursery professional with experience in production propagation and the management of employees.
